VENUE HIRE

An 11-acre park with beautiful shrubs and rolling lawns located on the outskirts of the charming and picturesque Kimbolton village, Heritage Park could make the perfect backdrop for your next event! Enquire to find out more.

The gardens were established in 1969 by the New Zealand Rhododendron Association (NZRA) primarily as a trial ground for rhododendrons. In 2006, the gardens were no longer required by NZRA and the Heritage Park Rhododendron Charitable Trust was created to own and manage the park which continues to be cared for by a team of volunteers.

Heritage Park is set 520 metres above sea level, just north of Kimbolton. It is a perfect location for growing rhododendrons (we have over 2000), azaleas and magnolias as well as many specimen trees, shrubs and plants. Birdlife is prolific. The 5-hectare site is gently undulating with ponds, streams and sculptures which can all be viewed from wide, easy walking paths.

While peak flowering occurs from October to November, the garden is worthy of a visit any time of year with varying vistas to enjoy, such as the stunning autumn colours. The ground is also a registered motorhome park (site 4670) which is available for overnight stays.

Here in our park you will find:

  • A comprehensive collection of New Zealand hybrid Rhododendrons and azaleas, many bred at the park
  • Species Rhododendrons
  • A large trial area
  • A fine collection of trees and shrubs

Please note:

  • The garden has unfenced streams and ponds.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Some sections of the pathway are steep and may be slippery.

Management asks visitors to take care but reminds them that they visit the garden at their own risk.
